How to Get First Aid Training

First aid training is necessary for the medical field. Because health care practitioners work in a high-risk environment, it’s imperative that they know how to provide immediate care. Meanwhile, those who don’t work in this industry are still recommended to take this course. Accidents and emergencies can happen at any time, so it’s best to be prepared.

Here are a few things you should consider if you want to take this course.

Check your eligibility

There aren’t a lot of eligibility rules for the program. People under the age of 18 can enrol. The minimum age requirement to take the course is 14 years old. If you’re underage, you’ll need a consent form from your parent or guardian. It should clearly state that you have permission to take the course.

Other than that, basic reading and literacy skills are needed. You’ll be going through a lot of reading materials, so comprehension is a must. However, most people don’t need to take the Language, Literacy and Numeracy Exam to get admitted. There are no educational prerequisites as well.

Whilst there are no physical fitness exam, it would help if you’re in shape. Immediate care will require a lot of labour. At the very least, you’ll have to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation for two minutes straight or more. In some cases, you’ll have to carry patients to safety. It’s highly suggested that you get into good physical shape before taking the course.

Set time in your schedule

This course comes in two phases: online learning and practical training. The first part requires you to complete 6.5 hours’ worth of learning materials. You will be supplemented with all the necessary learning materials. Afterwards, you’ll take an online assessment. Only those who pass the exam can carry on to the next phase.

The practical training part of the course requires that you work with the tools and equipment used in the medical field. You’ll be using dummies to perfect CPR. This also takes 6.5 hours. If you’re working or have other things on your schedule, it’s best to clear a day or two to complete the process.
